High Blood Pressure Medication & Pregnancy: Substituting Methyldopa

Blog
A member of my Facebook Group is having trouble finding her prescribed high blood pressure medication called methyldopa. She wanted to know what medication might be a substitute in pregnacy and if she is trying to conceive. The best person to answer this question is her doctor or her pharmacist (PharmD). Many times physicians, pharmDs, and insurance providers work together to come up with the best medication substitution. The member said, "Hello Everyone! Does anyone know of any high blood pressure medication that is approved for during pregnancy or trying to conceive? I’ve been taking Methyldopa for a while now but it’s discontinued at my regular pharmacy, and all other pharmacies in my area are saying the same thing." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se7JqYbLGdA Methyldopa Methyldopa is also known as Aldoment, and it is…

Does Amlodipine Cause Ankle or Foot Swelling?

Blog
Does amlodipine cause ankle or foot swelling? A person in one of my hypertension groups was just started on amlodipine a week ago. Now, she is complaining of swelling in her left ankle and lower foot. She wants to know if the swelling in her ankle and foot is normal. She is on 25 mg of hydrochlorothiazide and 50 mg of losartan in the mornings, and 50 mg of metoprolol in the evenings. I don't know the dose of amlodipine, but I will assume that she is taking 10 mg in the mornings. However, usually, a smaller dose is started unless her blood pressure was severe at the time the medication was started. She is planning to see her cardiologist soon. The question was asked because she wanted to know…

Blog
#blacklivesmatter #racism #uncomfortableconversations For anyone trying to understand racism, I wrote this blog just for you because I have been trying to understand too. We witnessed the horrific murder of Mr. George Floyd by police on May 25, 2020, in Minneapolis during an arrest. This is not a common occurrence, but it is happening too frequently. I'm trying to understand why we are still experiencing racism? Of course, there is no simple answer to why there is racism in America. Yet, we do know that it is a learned behavior that is taught from one person to another. Allow me to oversimplify a very complex topic based on what I have learned about human behavior. Ambivalence exists in America, but more people are outraged and committed to acting in "good…

The length of time may be different for different people. However, COVID-16 experts…
