Beta blockers, clonidine, and hydralazine need to be weaned and not stopped abruptly.
Hypertension emergency is severely elevated blood pressure with severe target organs damage.
Usually medications are given through an IV at the emergency room to get the blood pressure down. IV fluids are give to with limited salt, which is not the usual normal saline but the .45 or . 25 % solution or D5 IV solution.
