The new version of Omicron is called the BA.2 and the original version was the BA.1. The good news is that BA.2 is no more virulent than BA.1. That essentially means that eventually, just about everyone will get infected with the COVID-19 virus. They think this is happening due to the highly infectious Delta variant and our inability to reach herd immunity. COVID-19 Delta variant is on the rise as we head to herd immunity in the United States. The Delta variant is a variation of COVID-19 that originated in India (B.1.67.2), spread to dominance in the United Kingdom, and now it's near dominant in the United States.
