Muscle Pain On Statin Drugs: It’s Not All In Your Head

Are you on cholesterol medication called statins for your elevated cholesterol and having pain? Research has shown that statins are effective cholesterol lowering medication. This class of drugs consists of several kinds of medications like Lipitor or atorvastatin. The video below will give you more information about statins.

Do you have pain in your legs, arms, or back muscles? Do your legs feel weak while walking? Any of these symptoms could mean that you might be developing muscle damage from statin drugs.

Have you reported these symptoms to your health care provider and you were told it is all in your head? In other words, your provider suggested that you see a mental health profession. Or worst, were you prescribed antipsychotic or pain medication for your complaint of pain? Dr. Greger explains what could happen when you take statin drugs in the video below.

Statins could also cause liver damage. So, it is important to monitor your liver function with a liver function panel if you are on a statin.

So, what should you do? Talk to your health care provider about this and if your provider doesn’t listen, you might need to consider a second opinion.
