Masked hypertension is the most dangerous type of hypertension BECAUSE IT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT HYPERTENSION TO TREAT. The main problem with masked hypertension is the inability to diagnose it. Masked hypertension may be detected outside the health provider’s office. In the office setting, masked hypertension appears as normal blood pressure.
According to Dr. Joseph Schwartz at Stony Brook University in New York, 12% of adults in the United States have masked hypertension.
Resistant hypertension is difficult to treat requiring at least three different types of medications to obtain blood pressure control. However, masked hypertension is commonly missed since blood pressure measurements are elevated outside the clinic.
Without a home blood pressure monitor or ambulatory blood pressure monitor, masked hypertension is difficult to identify and treat.
Therefore, it is essential to monitor your blood pressure at home using a home blood pressure monitor and log your measurements in a blood pressure monitor app. I use the BP Monitor App seen below.
